- Wingecarribee is a local government area in the Southern Highlands region of New South Wales, Australia. It has a population of around 50,000 and covers an area of 2,700 square kilometers.
- The name Wingecarribee is derived from an Aboriginal word meaning "place where the river wonga pigeons nest". The area was originally inhabited by the Gundungurra people and later by European settlers in the early 19th century.
- The town of Bowral in Wingecarribee is famous for its spring gardens, particularly the Tulip Time Festival which attracts thousands of visitors every year. The gardens feature over 75,000 tulips and other floral displays, as well as live entertainment, food stalls, and arts and crafts.
- The Wingecarribee River is a major watercourse in the region, flowing from the Illawarra escarpment to the Nepean River. It provides important habitat for a variety of native plants and animals, including the vulnerable platypus and the endangered grey-headed flying fox.
- The Wingecarribee Reservoir, also known as Fitzroy Falls Reservoir, is a popular destination for camping, fishing, bushwalking, and birdwatching. It was built in the 1960s to store water for the Sydney region and now serves as a recreational facility as well as a vital water source.
- The Southern Highlands Railway is a heritage railway that runs through the Wingecarribee region, offering scenic tours on vintage steam and diesel locomotives. The railway has been operating since 1985 and runs regularly on weekends and public holidays.
- Wingecarribee Shire Council has won several awards for its sustainable practices and environmental initiatives, including the Local Government NSW Excellence in the Environment Award in 2017 for its waste management program.
- The Wingecarribee Trail is a long-distance hiking trail that covers over 250 kilometers of bushland and farmland in the region. It passes through national parks, state forests, and private property, offering a diverse range of landscapes and wildlife.
- The Wingecarribee Dam was built in the early 1900s to provide water for the growing towns and farms in the region. It was the largest dam in New South Wales when it was completed and still supplies water to around 80,000 people today.
